The LROC rocks!
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera swooped by in a low orbit to capture the LM descent stage and Lunar Rover (LRV) from Apollo 17. This special pass was just 72K ft. overhead.
The wheel-pair tracks of the rover are clearly visible, as well the LRV itself in its final parking place.
Here is a cool flyover movie of the new panorama released by NASA today.
It really brings alive the Apollo 17 lunar surface instructions for the transfer between these vehicles that I bought from Gene Cernan.
Revisiting the last human steps and EV tracks on the moon filled Gene with “nostalgia and disappointment. Nostalgia because those special days are fondly etched in my memory and disappointment because it looks like now we will not be going back within the days I have left on this planet.”
