The weekend was a good time to test a new acoustic muffler nose cone for the strap-on cylindrical Boostervision video cam. Will not be using that as it muffles too much.

Anyhoo, here’s the video (with HD on for full screen viewing).

Out over the ocean she flew, and luckily the coastal breezes brought her back over the golfers on the 18th hole… a bit close to the Ritz balconies… (whew!)… and into the arms of an excited tennis player.

  1. Here she is, with strap-on

The red wires falling in the foreground are from Erik’s Estes "Big Daddy" rocket which took off prematurely. (In this drag race, we want the video vehicle to go first since the camera is pointing down, but competitive impulses rule… =)

Over ocean, a holy grail for me…. with several cameras lost in the quest….

  2. Too funny…
That HD is pretty slow on my connection.
Ritz is OK with this stuff ?

  3. Yep, so feel like flying with this rocket camera, love the ocean from above views, fantastic place…cool that skies are so clear…restaurants are great there too, pricey though. Beautiful pictures!

  4. Hey I say old chap, do be carefull with those rockety thingies, there are other chaps in the sky. Bad enough having to swerve around those hang-gliding blighters a little north of here, and now we have to contend with un-manned ballistic stuff whizzing around as well. Jolly unsettling and all that, do keep an eye out…

  5. your video is awesome! great films and photos!

  6. Love the launch sounds. Next time try for a hole in one.

  7. funny you should say that….. We had a launch event at NASA today and afterward, over donuts, we lamented that we did not do a spoof photo of the rocket lawn darted into the 18th hole…

We also thought the countdown should be 10,9,8,7,6,5… Fore!

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/jitze1942] – oh, yes, when we hear the low buzzing planes we feel like scrambling the SAMs… but in reality, we abide by the code and only launch when no sound of plane or ‘copter can be heard. Today, the flight path of Southwest bedeviled us the most.

    [http://www.flickr.com/photos/daveh56] It’s a seek forgiveness thing… and a quick recovery plan =)

HD slow for others? Here’s a plain YouTube link.

  8. Thanks for the Luddite link !

  9. About waiting for the all quiet prior to launch – that’s good, but it does remind us that if Tesla ever makes a light plane, it had better make suitable "pocketa-pocketa" noises if it doesn’t want a rocket up its assets:-)

  10. Got it!

  11. Looks like you have invented some new way to play golf – rocket-golf of sorts:D

  12. The video, (seeing it again) looks really great! The rocket is fairly good at coming back to its source…almost. As you said, practice and good light winds helped. I think the quality of the video is good for a small camera. I bet some neighbours or hotel guests get annoyed but the flight is quick. Fun!
