  3. 30 years ago, if you tried to cross that bridge, you went through a dystopic tunnel of barbed wire, and were stopped at a hut in the middle of the bridge by some very earnest men with machine guns. Those with South African stamps in their passports were vigorously turned away, thankfully with no extra holes.

    I trust they have since improved their policies toward tourists.
