Not Apple, but Yahoo trying to report on the iCloud announcement and getting overwhelmed. =)

Which reminds me of Sten’s pointer on fB: Is Nokia Worth Less than Skype?

I especially like the poetic quote from Horace:
“this is the end game of disruption. It ends much more suddenly than it begins. It’s the consequence of nobody noticing the beginning that makes the end so shocking.”

Financial markets go positively non-linear in the face of unprecedented hyper growth, but have they reconciled the terminal values of accelerating decline?

It also reminds me… has there been a good long-term VC investment in a consumer electronics company since Apple? (a company that has retained billion dollar value for decades…. Thinking about the waves of game consoles, cell phones, handheld computers, and gadgets…).

And a reasonable argument can be made that the resurgence of Apple from near death came via integrated innovation across software and services.

  1. You’re right. It’s definitely interesting. Google has stepped up as a major contender for portable electronics…but I suppose the droid is at its root only software as well. Seems they are taking the long way around. Sony is the opposite. making hardware gadgets for years. Apple is such a Titan that is infused with everything now, I can’t see how they will fall. I’m a fan.

  2. oh, I’m a diehard fanboy too… from programming the Apple ][ back in middle school to working for NeXT and then Apple…

And yeah, from a business model perspective, Android is more like DOS than consumer electronics

  3. Apple’s innovation is their understanding that user experience is everything. Integration across software, hardware and services allows for that total focus on the quality experience.

And no, I can’t think of another investment of any kind that’s analogous to APPL. While I certainly don’t love a lot of what they’ve done over the years, I find the Apple story inspiring.

  4. Out of topic (AAPL) comment.
Amazon cloud crashed one day before Earth Day. Was it signalling that
the data center is not environmental friendly? Wonder whether Apple
will have the need to foster its data center, like Facebook, Google.

  5. Apple would probably go from near death to death experience back then without Steve Jobs… amazing that one person can make this much difference… create entire industries…

  6. looking at Apple’s P/E of 16, it looks undervalued (even at MC of 500+Billion), compare this to SFDC P/E of 6,700. How do you reconcile this…?

  7. it should trade up to 800
