When life is complicated, we are more open to suggestion…. =)

Presentation by Prof. Sinan Aral from NYU Stern and MIT. His research focuses on social contagion and measuring and managing how information diffusion in massive social networks affects information worker productivity, consumer demand and viral marketing.

TEDx is broadcasting live from Stanford through 6pm. Daniel Kraft is presenting now, on flying physicians

As a Luddite it seems inevitable that it will change TV fairly completely and fairly soon.
I am still adjusting to looking at so much video stuff…(youtube etc…)

One of the presenters was showing how she used her phone as a baby monitor…which seems at first glance a tad ridiculous…but maybe not.
The use of TONS of accumulated GPS/mapping data etc was also discussed…

I have to say that its a bit like folks with a new (set of) toy (s)….
Not quite sure how to use them…

  6. I was MIA for the band storming! Really too bad i missed that!

Loved most of the speakers’ general energy and enthusiasm for instilling positive change.
My general takeaway / recurring theme:

Movement towards the management of consumer "big data" regarding observations of daily routines (reminiscent of Body Media) — counting steps taken, calories consumed, sleep REM cycles, heart rate, etc.

Providing that data in a dashboard format for personal reflection on a consistent basis helps to keep oneself "in check". Do I really need that second dessert after eating a late lunch and not exercising today? How has my exercise and weight gain/loss fluctuated over the past week or month…A constant reminder of my actions will instill more discipline! At least, that is the hope 🙂
