Alan’s rocket has had several successful launches, but not today.

Just got back from a great Snow Ranch launch… and affter cleaning six motor casings and downloading several videos from the rocket cams, I realize some editing is in order.

In short, we finally got the Epic rocket to ignite all four motors (with awesome onboard HD video of all of the action) and the 56-pound Sledgehammer pounded out a Pink M-motor with three onboard videocams. So exciting!

  1. Problems started at takeoff… The forward closure delay grain failed, venting the high pressure upward:

  2. wow the first one is an amazing pic!

  3. Yes….very photogenic failure.

  4. It looks like some kind of of oil painting to me.

The cloud cover made everything a bit backlit and dramatic. And yeah, the best launches are when something crazy happens… and it’s not your rocket…. Kinda like NASCAR

  5. Cool, the cloud has the shape of Italy….

  6. =) and it was mostly unharmed.

Another sky painting… looks like Batman vs. the Red Baron

  7. My wife happened to walk in while I was viewing this. "That’s not real, that’s a painting!" she said before I had said a word.

Can’t wait for the video from the Sledgehammer!

  8. That’s fantastic. Sorry for the failure, but it sure makes for great photos.

  9. This is so good, I’m speechless!

  10. Spectacular failure! Some how these images remind me of the Challenger failure….

  11. thanks y’all… Here’s a slo-mo video of some of the action (it’s hard to track in telephoto, believe me… =)
