will.i.am was on the front page of the San Jose Mercury News today for becoming Intel’s Director of Creative Innovation.

So what ditty will he sing about multi-hardcore dirty bits?

Intel spokesperson Dan Larusso: “It may be a variety of music. We haven’t really disclosed where that goes, but it should be cool when it comes out.”

  1. Yes, be positive and optimistic, believe in yourself, and you can do anything you want! Yes, we can!

  2. Love it!!!! Love it!!! 😀

  3. And there’s me thinking they were a supplier of semiconductor devices. Strange world, or he’s got a good agent.

  5. Director of Creative Innovation, eh? What’s his reporting line and how big is his team?

  6. Probably a solo act. He has an astute media business mind.

And every semi fab needs a lyrical poet… Maybe he was thinking ahead to serenade the "dirty bit" in his latest song.

The video references his Yes We Can music video. It is interesting that political messages are exempt from his record label contract, and gave him an interesting loophole for building the brand.

We took this segment just after he sang at the DNC, and before the election…. which left him very proud during the inauguration:

    Afterglow

  7. great, so Intel is finally "leaping ahead"… and I see that DFJ is also leaping ahead with two in-house poets:)

  8. A despiration move? Really need to check those marketing folks to see what they are drinking. Not sure that I would define creative innovation this way. Oh well…

  9. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/26274943@N02] grumpy, grumpy:)
Intel was never terribly desperate (being a cash cow and almost monopoly..) however, as for culture goes, offices and visual/poetic side was completely absent (Intel is not Apple)… Intel is very efficient and functional, but and reminded me for some reason military in all splendor… leap ahead sounded rather weak as a marketing message also… so they got a new mover-shaker! like it:)

  10. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/solerena] Not really grumpy – I just find that business needs more attention than perhaps will be given to it by a creative individual -acknowledged as such in one are of excellence. I guess that what I am saying is that I am not sure that the creativity we see is easily transfered to the culture and operations. Whacha think?

  11. probably, it depends who is transferring and what:) some people are very charismatic or funny or both, so others might be inclined to follow them around… so it can be contagious…in a good way:)

  12. Very cool…will.i.am is obviously a smart man, as well as terribly talented! Oh yes! We can!!!

  13. Oh, and some memories from that first meeting:

Over the prior couple hours, he kept weaving lyrical outbursts from The Riskmaster into the dialog… “That song is in my head.”

“The 1,4,5 guitar pattern in Yes We Can is the same as Redemption Song and Blackbird. So it’s familiar to people.”

“The song took 3 days to produce, 2 to record vocals and video and one to edit.”

Parting words: “Please don’t let McCain use The Riskmaster song.” Nice!
