I just obtained some very cool space artifacts to add to the office collection.

This lunar globe belonged to Neil Armstrong and he gave it to his parents Steve and Viola at the time of his Apollo 11 mission.

Later on, the Lunar Module Pilots of Apollo 15 and 16 signed the globe with an X to mark the spot of their landings.

P.S. I would have written something a bit more dramatic to Neil…. =)

  6. @Happy Tinfoil Cat: that sounds like Wallace & Gromit’s "A Grand Day Out"…

"Wallace and his sophisticated dog Gromit have to decide where to go for their annual picnic. With a homemade rocket and large appetite they head for the moon in search of cheese."

  7. No clue in the picture as to its scale – I assume it is the sort of size typical of a globe found in a living room – maybe 18 inch diameter or so?

  8. just another ‘knick knack’ for the office…(not)

  9. You’ll have to let us know when you have an open house so we can see all these amazing artifacts. Really cool stuff!

“The origin of the maria is not yet known, although a number of theories have been advanced to explain them. It is likely that only detailed exploration of the lunar surface will provide the answer to the question of the origin of these, the largest features on the moon’s surface.”
