Nice image. Your mention of the diffraction grating brought to mind an article I read recently on a new technique to counter optical diffraction and create stable three dimensional solitons, or so called "light bullets".
"localized packets of electromagnetic energy that propagate without spreading out, despite diffraction and dispersion"
Considering the possible applications for computers I found it interesting.

I enjoy the comments as much as the photo! of course I have no idea what light bullets are but the image I conjure up is fantastic…and reading HAL’S song ‘ Daisy’ brings me right there…with Keir Dullea looking at this singing machine.
