  1. very beautiful car, nice shape and complex color…

  2. I’d enjoy owning one of those.

  3. Nice shot. I like the contrast between the car color and the background.

  4. How is it where I live when, we have 20 below and 8 inches of snow on the road…??

    Looks great !!
….I am sure the future is electric…and probably one day from fuel cells…
Just want to see it happen sooner !

  5. I want one exactly like this one in red for my birthday!
J’en veux une auto exactement comme celle-ci en rouge pour ma fête!

    Gorgeous car! Très belle auto!

  6. How much for a spare battery..?
    British racing green for me.

For snowy environments, the electric AWD Toyota RAV4, which Tesla will co-develop with Toyota, would presumably be a more practical choice than the low-slung Tesla Model S.
Chances are that the electric RAV4 will be assembled at the ex-NUMMI factory pictured above.

Toyota bought $50M of Tesla shares in a private placement, prior to Tesla’s IPO. For Toyoya, this could be seen as a form of vendor-provided financing to facilitate the purchase of the NUMMI plant by a fairly cash-strapped Tesla <g>

The operation removed the idle and illiquid Fremont facility from the balance sheet of NUMMI — an erstwhile joint venture between Toyota and Motors Liquidation Co. (née GM) — replacing it with a hopefully more liquid asset — Tesla shares.

Financially speaking, the fact that the operation will enable Tesla to generate — and thus add — value at the Fremont facility by producing the Model S and the electric RAV4 is obviously a plus point for all the parties involved in the deal.

    Thanks for that…
I have put the Tesla ticker on one of my "watch lists" and have an interest in this joint venture….
Seems a bit like Toyota would be (eventually) competing against itself…(!) so I do not fully understand the relationship, and how deep it goes…
But I have not said much here…
(considering our kind hosts interests !!)
So I am watching this story from a bit of a ringside seat…

Still…realistically,I believe the cold weather capacity of an "all battery" car is limited…
Not that I don’t think they are a GREAT idea…
I enjoyed several months of zipping around on an electric scooter this summer after reading about them here…
(Despite the fact that at least once a day some hot head in a car would toot or even yell…it seems to makes them nervous…)
    Fu*k them,I say……(!!)

  9. PS
I once had the misfortune to make an (admittedly small) investment in Ballard Power…
    Enough said…..(!!)

  10. Sweet looking car. What’s its towing capacity? 🙂

(dave:) There are a few electric scooters in town here. They are a hazard. They don’t behave like bicycles: too fast and too ungainly for multi-use pathways, but are too slow to keep up with traffic. They don’t ‘fit’ anywhere. They are functionally equivalent to construction equipment in traffic: slow moving obstacles.

If electric vehicles are to fit into current city traffic models they really do have to look and behave like cars.

    re;scooters
Well…they should not be on bike paths…!

They are supposed to operate like a bicycle…speed limited and on the side of traffic…Seems to work fine for me…
True they are a bit "wider" than a regular bike…but folks seem to feel they have to "go around" them with 6 feet of clearance…which is just a reflection of some unfamiliarity with them..They "hang up" behind me for no good reason…which ticks off the folks behind them…
Like anything new it takes time.
So my point about peoples reactions is illustrated by your comments…

"If electric vehicles are to fit into current city traffic models they really do have to look and behave like cars."

    Really…?

  12. not in China….

or India, where the city cars behave like bikes…. =)

But once you get out on the open road, I see your point…. crazy dude in India

    Some discussion of -20°C Teslas.

  13. this car is amazing, honestly it is the first Tesla model i truly love… wish the price would be more affordable…sweet:) i guess it would be too pretty for large city roads in China or India… many of my friends and relatives in Moscow now drive luxury European vehicles… amazing… world has changed…. my vote is for Tesla.

Thank for the cold weather battery info…
I have to say the discussion reminded me of another issue though…
Interior heating must be limited in winter, without a nice hot engine to blow air around…!!

  15. The China situation illustrates my point by counterpoint. In most medium-size cities in north america, roads and rules are built to accommodate car-like vehicles. In China, where parking lots look like this:
    Dude, where's my ride?
A Tesla would be as out of place as a slow electric scooter is in a north american city. Instead, you’d be riding one of these:
    Pimp My Tricycle

    Wow…where can I get one ??
    🙂

I just think/hope that the electric scooter….bike…(whatever you want to call it) will be better accepted, tolerated and used…in the future.
And that the batteries will get better.
As it is, I can go to work and back (15 miles) on a charge…I think that is cool compared to dragging a 3000 pound car around…
    And parking is free…!!!
    They have a future.

  17. NIce!! Would love to see it in person, great look too.

  18. I think that’s the color for me.

A couple dozen test builds will be driving about next year, so you might get to see one. Texas is a tough state given its car dealership laws, but we hope to be there too. Meanwhile, I took a video of the first test drive.

  19. I like whatever I have seen most recently…. =)

Shiny bling… I think car #1 will have this exterior, and perhaps, strangely, white leather…. Franz, the chief designer, loves that combo…

  20. this car is appealing to female psyche – it screams: buy me, buy me… kinda like in Alice in Wonderland – “drink me… “ good grief, vennettaj – we will wait till the price will drop down… only venture capitalists with a bunch of “honey” can pay the premium market price:):) just teasing…

  21. there are major factors (well-known), oil-dependency, global warming and such… it is one of the areas for potential solutions, and looks shiny and pretty on top – i would cherry pick it… but price will probably bite for a while… one step at a time… thoughts and dreams lead to plans and actions… for any human, male or female…

However, things are things… so we have them and they should not have us… or box us somehow…

  22. Dave Halliday: on cold weather topics, an electric heater can ramp faster than engine heat…

And here’s a new review of cold-weather driving

    Wow…you remembered my comment…
I guess hearing about winter (so far) in Europe may have twigged your memory…

I can only say that maybe I underestimate the battery capacity,or overestimate how many Kilowatts it takes to heat a car…
My Merc manual keeps cautioning me about turning off "all unnecessary electrical accessories"…..
(and seems most worried about window defrosters and seat heaters…!)
    Very Teutonic…

  24. Thanks for sharing your work. We liked it so much we used it for a recent post, http://www.earth911.com/eco-tech/transportation/3-must-have-apps...
