More info: this is the fourth prototype from Arcimoto, which is so spanking new that they hadn’t finished body panels for it, hence the Mad Max tubular frame style. Reportedly, it makes for more comfortable testing in the summer as well. They were in town as part of a "victory tour" from qualifying as a Regional Finalist in the Clean Tech Open.
It also recently caught the attention of Nathan Fillion (aka. Cap’n Mal from Firefly) who flew up to Eugene for a test drive. He tweeted that it "drove like a shark" thanks to the low CG of the battery pack.
As an Oregonian, I have a deposit down for one of these little homegrown EVs. At $20k, they are one of the few freeway EVs within an ordinary person’s budget. I have my fingers crossed that they clear the hurdle of manufacturability, across which many other EV makers have stumbled.
