Beautiful birds and relatively ubiquitous. I have to keep netting on the koi pond because of these buggers. They’ll clean out a pond in seconds.

They are not particular about the fish they eat. Many a friend has lost their prize fish to heron and raccoons in this area. I would love to leave the pond uncovered, but I’m not that daring. They are spectacular looking bird, and this is a great capture.

And, yes, the ‘coons work the pond in the middle of the night!

I am in love with these birds. I saw one RIGHT as I walked into a park when I was on vacation in May, and I got so excited and immediately took this sort of crappy picture of it, and felt lucky. Then I went back to the park and realized that about 30 of them were hanging out there all the time, stealing eggs and food from other birds and generally acting like that relative you let sleep on your couch that then refused to leave.
