  2. Haha : ) what did you say to the golfers….Sorry lost my rocket…my swing was to hard : )

    Soooooo cool !

    Makes me wonder about something…oceans explorations with rockets… anyone ?!! : )

  3. I take it you were not planning to swim had it made an ocean landing? I’m going to have to see if there is anywhere in my area where rocket launches are common. Frankly I don’t want to be responsible for buring down 10,000 acres of Pine Barrens. I have not played with rockets since I was a teen and clearly things have changed.

  4. !!
Launched from hood of your car it looks like…

  5. Lead-acid batteries are the best for igniter amperage… So mission control has his head under the hood.

Dr. D: Last time we tried this, we put the launch pad just a few feet closer to the ocean… Everything went the same as this flight, but the rocket landed one foot into the surf anc got pulled out. I dived in after it, and got the destroyed remains. No video, and a few dings on me from the offshore rocks so visible in the blue frame above. From your comments, it sounds like you should get started

As I may have mentioned I used to (scratch) build stuff as teen (homemade propellant !!) and did fly some decent "one way" flights, including some staged work.
    Nothing like this,,,!
I am enjoying the view…but am 100% as enthused by this pastime as you are…!
Maybe when better motors are more readily available in Canada…
Just too many "legality" issues in the the modern world….esp now,and in Canada.
    I am a bit of a rebel…but at 50 (+) too straight to defy them…
    In a nutshell.
Toying with idea of fireworks though (!!)

  7. I don’t know the launch rules there, but Tripoli looks pretty active in Canada. Try hooking up with them.

And it just so happens that my favorite rocket motors are made in Canada, eh.

  8. Is this the assembled rocket from the previous photo?

  9. No, I have not started assembling that one yet… Had to head out of town before I could.

This one is a rebuilt Aerotech G-Force with a replacement nosecone from a LOC IV (both had ballistic reentry problems before….) and some duct tape…

So it’s a bit of a beater rocket made from scrap. =)

  10. You and I have different views on what scrap is 🙂
