Boy I hope that was a long lens. Great photos.
My family has a cabin just west of West Yellowstone on the Madison. I took a whole slew of nephews up there years ago. Three of them went hiking in the woods, but an hour later, TWO came running back out, hysterical and crying "BEAR! BEAAAR!" My dad grabbed a gun and ran into the woods for the missing nephew. I had about five minutes of hysterical paralysis, wondering how I was going to tell my sister that I let her kid get eaten by a bear in the forest. Then the missing nephew walked up to the cabin from the other direction. He was just wandering, and hadn’t seen a bear.
To this day I believe the other two nephews saw a cow. I vowed never to let city kids wander the forest alone again.
But the bears… they’re out there. With baby bears!
Correct me if I’m wrong but…
If they ignore you, just ignore them!
If they approach you, never run…make as much noise as possible!
If you have a camera, enjoy the photos!
I guess I meant RUN when you see them…
If they see you,and have cubs, and are close by…apply salt and pepper to yourself.
Or are the bears in Yellowstone a lame bunch ??
We get several deaths a year in Canada.
PS remember that "bear guy"…?
Always talking about how the bears were his "friends"…for years…
They found his,and his girlfriends hats…
Here’s dramatic footage of a Swedish man standing his ground in response to several bluff charges from a bear. The rule of thumb advice is simple: Do NOT run.

Watched a few minutes…I was in a rush…was there a big point made ??
It sounds like a real tragedy…thats all.
(some) Wild animals love meat…
Period.

I am never going berry picking in Alaska !!
(or Sweden..whatever)
We had 2 campers kiiled/eaten in a Provincial Park around 120 miles away,20 yrs ago.
flytrue2: that video of the Swedish bloke is incredible…
dave: the point really was just how much it takes to shock or alarm Werner Herzog, as he continues an interview with an air pellet inside his stomach without seeking relief or mentioning it. the things that happen to that man are consistently ridiculous, as are his amazing films. watch through to the end when you have time – and definitely worth watching the main feature for Treadwell’s mindblowing footage and Herzog’s deadpan observations, if you haven’t already seen it.
but sure – he had it coming to him all along. best web analysis of TT i’ve seen here…
Thanks for all that !
And I already found that link…
So it was TREADWELL who got eaten…and the guy in the video did a film on him…
Now I am sorted
