“Russia has a lot of money,
but it does not have Silicon Valley.”

“I am jealous of you. You can make money and pursue what you enjoy doing. What is the definition of happiness if not that.”

He came alive this afternoon once he lifted his eyes from the script on his iPad (which he brandished with pride from the table here).

  1. Do you know of a video of this?

  2. No cameras or video allowed. =)
So I had to wing it for the metal detectors. I left the SLR behind and put the pocket camera in my cell phone case.

Russia TV was capturing it though.

  3. Blue jeans too…
? Maybe he is going to buy Silicon Valley….(!)

    He looks hipper than Obama…
    That’s a far cry from the Khrushchev -Kennedy photo’s in a 1961…

  4. "I am jealous of you. You can make money and pursue what you enjoy doing. What is the definition of happiness if not that.” One ought to be able to hear something similar coming from a lot of American places just as well…

  5. He certainly seems to portray the person behind the politician. It is the deviciveness of the politician that I can never trust. We are all Homo sapiens (perhaps a bit of Neanderthal thrown in). If nothing else it means the "inner workings" are similar, as are our hopes and aspirations perhaps more than many would like to recognize.

  6. I think the "Neanderthal" component is larger than we like to think…despite efforts (like this) to hide it.
I am thinking of the (eternal) history of war in the modern age…

I hate to admit it,but I think women often make better leaders…perhaps the effect is diluted..(!)

  7. He does NOT look hip. While I appreciate the effort, his look is a total miss. His jeans are too tight, he wears the wrong shoes, wrong socks… He should hire designers to work on his "casual" look.

  8. Replicating Silicon Valley in Russia…. made manifest.

So, after this, I had dinner with Matt Ridley, vacationing from the U.K. with a new book on how prosperity evolves from cultural exchange.

He described Silicon Valley as “where ideas meet and mate.”

Today I meet with a delegation from Chile, to discuss… Silicon Valley.

  9. Great portrait! – nice addition to Obama’s head shots

As Medvedev said – his job is "hard" – so he deserves a fair credit for the honest effort and intellect – to compare with Eltsin or Bush – he looks hip:)

  10. vennettaj: You are correct. I admit I did not do any research. It appears this is Mr. Medvedev’s preferred style.

  11. How interesting. Seems to be the topic all over the world, this week =)
Yesterday I was listening to French Minister for Industry, who was telling us about the same thing "The French Silicon Valley -Saclay" =)

  12. Oooh…. as a follow up my comment about Matt Ridley, he just gave a talk at TED Global: "When Ideas have sex."

  13. No SV….but only in Putin collection has a President
