These Georgian Protesters were cordoned off, and so they missed the comments by Russian President Medvedev at Stanford. So I went over and read my notes to them.
When asked whether Russia would mend relations with Georgia soon, Medvedev’s stiffened, and replied:
“Let me be clear. These relations are dramatically bad. We are not to blame. We defended our people. And there were sad consequences. There is no time for improvement with the existing President of Georgia. In speaking over the language of law, he has committed a crime. A new leader of Georgia can reanimate our relations. This is the view of the Russian Federation. This is the situation by law.”
It was a chilling response. Needless to say, the protesters did not see it that way.
