  1. I had a "Religious Knowledge" teacher in high school who looked just like this. He must have passed on a long time ago, but maybe he got re-incarnated – this is truly a remarkable likeness.

  2. Yes, he has a sly smile.

And yes, our brain is hardwired to see these patterns. The work of Oliver Sacks on lucid hallucinations comes to mind (flickr blog):

"There is another part of the brain which is especially activated when one sees cartoons. It’s activated when one recognizes cartoons, when one draws cartoons, and when one hallucinates them."

  3. Great capture and I like the Doonesbury reference.

Incidentally, do you have an underwater housing for the 5D or are you shooting through the water with a polarizer? (or I suppose you could be inside a Deepflight-type vehicle!)

  4. The 5D II shots are above water with polarizer. The underwater shots are the Canon D10

  5. Thanks. I’m trying to decide on an approach for some upcoming watery travels (new camera or housing). Your D10 photo of the turtle is great.

  6. While I have not tried a housing, the D10 is not much more expensive than a good housing, and you get the benefits of compactness, ruggedness (for the beach), and a good macro zoom too. It even took good shots at full telephoto.
