Boxer and Feinstein were pretty pumped about the prospects of a buyer for the huge NUMMI auto plant..
Optimism was mixed on the prospect for an energy bill. Perhaps the Lieberman variant.
They described the offshore drilling news as an astute political announcement since the President cannot fiat change there without legislation. Likely impact would only be in East Gulf along Florida, a resource-rich area.
Immigration: Senator Schumer was pitching green cards for new graduates in STEM fields this weekend. I also asked about the Kerry/Lugar Startup Visa Act. Did not get a clear perspective other than a likelihood that all these initiatives would be integrated into one bill.
They also talked about how important health care reform was. Boxer said, "Why would I pull the plug on Granny? I AM Granny!"
Klobucher talked about leadership with the example of her grandpa as the foreman of the mines – instead of radioing it in, he went 1,500 feet down with his crew to lead the way. She compared him to California, leading the way for other states. She is considered on the shortlist for first woman President of the U.S.
