Arenal spewing forth last night

Quite a dramatic sight. This was the best I could do without a tripod.

  1. "And here is a little science experiment, from the local school, entitled Terraforming Earth 2.0 " O=)

Love the "on the move" effect, add some fun, dynamic and danger to the scene.

  2. The best you could do??

Pretty damn impressive as far as I’m concerned.

    What an amazing sight.

A proper volcano with proper lava!

  3. The EXIF data says this was exposed for 43 secs – Holy Cow! You must have been able to rest the camera on something? Looks pretty damn good. EXIF also tells me the camera was at 30° Celsius – which maps into 86° F – you’re having a warm Christmas apparently.

This mountain displays dyspepsia on a grand scale – not easily fixed by a spot of bicarbonate after dinner.

  4. gnarly – thanks for sharing.

  5. Take a soak at Tabacon and listen to it rumble…

  6. Happy Christmas hot lvr**love and peace**

  7. Hadi Puhi and Feliz Navidad!

MIke – absolutely. A smoker with occasional bursts.

Jitze – Yup, 43 seconds to get the full flow… on a thin handrail, so my left-right was fairly stable, but the up-down was hard to hold.

I did not realize that temperature was in the public record. How interesting. Yes, it is hot and wet…. reminding me of Good Morning Vietnam

  8. Great shot!

I love Arenel and Costa Rica. Been there twice and would go back in a minute!

  9. This is a wonderfully different Christmas shot, Steve. All the best in the new year.

  10. Wow – very cool shot.

  11. Been there. Waited for the hotel bedroom telephone to warn of a nocturnal lava spectacle, but no. You were dead lucky. Arenal and Monterverde are spectacular but take a woolly … in the tropics or not, those places get cold, especially at night.
