Checking out a new gene gun at Synthetic Genomics in La Jolla this afternoon.
The system shoots a shotgun pattern of metal particles with DNA attached to transfect cells below.
Hoooooo so this is how DNA sequencing works… You just need to put your hand in the Magic Box, and that’ s it !!! O=)
Makes you wonder about the how to get Y’s single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) O ; )
The principle of gene guns has always been the same… pneumatic ballistics. What makes this one different?
Not much. Different metals I think from some earlier versions.
A really new approach is in development, but in a different room.
Hi. I am wondering if you will let us use this photo as part of a presentation on gene therapy in my bio class. We will of course include a "photo credit: Steve Jurvetson".
sure. All my photos are free to use with "photo by: Jurvetson (flickr)"
