Over many years, this rocket has deployed candy rain from the skies, but alas, today the parachute did not deploy, and it became a self-detonating ballistic piñata…

The candy was softened a bit but still quite delightful for the posse of kids chasing the rocket.

  1. I am running toward that candy too. I am a child at heart and would get excited along with the children.

Sometimes, even rockets have to transform into some new purpose. Go piñata!

  2. Ouch! By the way how do you like your 5D Mark II? Thinking about the purchase. Already love my 5D, but the ISO range on the Mark II is awsome. The video capablility sounds interesting too.

  3. I really like it. Better in many ways, especially the ISO range. Have not tested the HD video yet. I also like the live view and sensor cleaning. Only drawback I have sensed is a (possible) higher sensor noise during long night shot exposures. I have not done a vigorous A:B test, but have the sense that I was getting more noise at the same ISO.

  4. Sounds good. I think it’s my next purchase. My recommendation….forget the test and enjoy the camera! Keep up the interesting photostream!

  5. Uh-oh, my son just saw this and Wants!

  6. Yes… It’s a real crowd pleaser at the launches. For Easter, Tony fills it with candy easter eggs, each with its own parachute….

He plans to rebuild this one!

And here are the frames just before the spray above:

  7. I was working the range head and Tony brought candy from the landing and the butterfingers were toast but then great for a ice cream topping.

  8. I think I see my butterfinger in the photo. Great shot.

  9. Steve, can I get access to the better quality pictures? Every time I click on them they say that I’m not authorized to view them.

  10. Yes. Full size of all of these are at the LUNAR gallery. The "best viewed large" link in the caption leads to the full size of the top photo.

  11. great pinata idea 🙂

  12. Wow, this is a great picture! Thanks for making the effort to capture these things with photo and video.
