Named after rally race driver Michèle Mouton, the new fully autonomous car from Audi.

With Sebastian Thrun today, the Professor who has spearheaded the autonomous robocar initiative at Stanford, just after they unveiled this beauty.

They showed video of her doing four wheel drifts in the desert… and laying Audi-logo donuts in the desert playa… with computer-driven precision…. and nobody inside…

Next year they hope to rally race her up Pikes Peak.

  1. Wow. I can imagine my traffic free future. Please, where do I sign.

  2. I just met Sebastian at a robotics conference in Switzerland last month, where he was talking about increasing the traffic capacity of highways 5-fold. His opener was to imagine an aerial picture of a busy highway, and compare how many pixels are displaying a "car" and how many "road". Even in heavy traffic there is always 4-5 times more road than cars – this means that by precise computer-driving it would be possible to double or triple the traffic density without building new roads.
An amusing comment from a (european) member of the audience was "wouldn’t it be simpler to put cars on trains?"
