This rocket was aiming for 70K ft., with an O-motor booster releasing a skinny, but relatively heavy dart with much of the launch momentum. For a sense of scale, a motor of this size is used as a cruise missile booster.

But the composite coupler was not up to the task, and under supersonic stress, it buckled, resulting in a whiptastic skywriting show overhead.

  1. I sort of figured it was the composite coupler when I saw the picture. ..or the mass spectographic isotopic double diathermal nano fragmenter.
