The rich-poor gap in a petro-economy is pretty stark.

After a $22 million remodel, this restaurant is over the top, like a scene from Amadeus, with all of the staff in costume. Appetizers were $70 and a steak cost $300.

In the center of the room is a rotating stage with harp and fiddle (see below).

  1. I can imagine the china designed in a Fabergé fashion and stuff like that… very beautiful.

  2. Wow, that’s absurd. Any place that can make Silicon Valley seem cheap is too expensive.

  3. Photo geek observation: The waiter just caught the 3rd glass from right as it almost fell over (streaks and blur to left of it)?

Port geek observation: wrong glasses. Was this just a suggestive display? And where are the toasted walnuts and stilton?

Nice video of this opulent setting here – reveals the two tier circular/ovoid layout. The strange echoing laugh near the beginning makes it feel like part of a Kubrick movie: Barry Lyndon meets Eyes Wide Shut.

  4. I think if I were paying those prices I’d want the port to come in a glass that size. The walnuts are being toasted tableside in a solid gold Weber grill. Don’t know about the stilton.

  5. How were the Burgers there?

  6. Hamburger (plain, meat/bread) …………… $ 185
    Extra cheese slice ……………………………….. $ 40
    Extra onion ring ……………………………………. $25

    Fries (5 sticks/portion) ………………………… $55

(the worst thing is that I am not being funny, I am trying to make a good guess out of the prices he mentioned…)
