T+plus 60 minutes. At this point in the flight, the Falcon 1 should have restarted the second stage’s Kestrel engine and released the RazakSAT spacecraft into space. We are awaiting confirmation of these crucial events from SpaceX.

"Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX, just told Spaceflight Now the launch was a success.
"We nailed the orbit to well within target parameters…pretty much a bullseye. Satellite has separated and is communicating with (the) ground," Musk said.
A Malaysian satellite rode a Falcon 1 rocket into orbit Monday night, marking the first time the privately-developed booster has successfully launched a working spacecraft. "

Are government agencies ever efficient? To a lesser extent some of us in medicine have done similar things. I, for example, perform office based endoscopic procedures at a fraction of the cost of hospital or ambulatory care centers. Rather than rewarding us, the government (in many cases pushed by the State hospital associations) has started to try and over regulate us in an effort to a) apply new taxes, and b) put us out of business. So be careful how much business you take away from government or you may soon find yourselves having less fun.

Forgive me if the Mission control facility is Hawthorne, but if it’s not, how the heck did you get from Moscow to the launch facility on Kwajalein Atoll?
a) Moscow > SF > to launch with Elon on a G-IV or Global Express or some other private craft with that kind of range
b) Moscow > someplace in Asia (Japan) to launch by some kind of commercial or private jet
c) Same as b, but last leg hitch-hiked on US military transport
d) Moscow > Hawaii by commercial > to lunch via Polynesian oar-boat rowed by amazonian warrior women
e) New particle-beam transport technology unknown to mere mortals
Obviously this is a question you don’t have to answer, but that is some serious logistics.
And what an accomplishment for the SpaceX team.

Jaako: Candy store is right. The whole SpaceX facility in Hawthorne is a rocketeer’s dream, even if they don’t show the rest of us what’s inside the mission control trailer. 🙂
I highly recommend the tour to anyone who can get one. This is history in the making.
