Young man,
You were surfing along,
And then, young man,
You downloaded a song,
And then, dumb man,
Copied it to your ‘Pod,
Then a phone call came to tell you:
I was not able to go this year,as I couldn’t imagine a certain short person appreciating being trapped in an airplane from DC to Tallinn. We’re planning a trip to attend the next festival in 2011; any advice? Do you recommend staying in the city (my family is a little ways outside Tallinn in Harju County)? More importantly, how to sort through the gazillion party invitations – received so many this year that obviously I had to decline…Any must-do events (or must-miss, for that matter)….
Estonia has an interesting government as respects the President. While some may think he has largely ceremonial duties, he actually has quite a bit of power in selecting and nominating persons for high government and judicial positions; and other specific duties and powers.
I would guess that this event will be of the largely ceremonial type.
What is the situation of Estonia regarding financial crisis? Few months ago they were almost bankrupt. In the meantime things have improved or stabilized in the region somewhat. Now it seems to get worse again.. If those Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) went bankrupt, then it is not a pretty scenario for the rest of EU..
This is an exquisite photo, composition and invitation! I love the details!
I hope that you are inspired to give a unique speech that will energize some members of this nation where you could have been born. You represent hope for success and that is always a positive injection to offer. Have a great speech and evening!
@ Michelle.. So well said!
Hey, if anyone receiives such an invite, then they just HAVE to go. No matter who pays the air fare.
Thanks for sharing this personal moment
My Dad passed on Friday, and our friend Kari Kirk put together a wonderful video tribute to my Dad from our trip to the Estonian song festival in 2009. It shows how often my Dad would burst into song, often in multiple languages. Whenever he met someone from Sweden, for example, he would sing their national anthem in Swedish.
