We took a test flight today of the historic sights of Silicon Valley, to help develop a new tour for Airship Ventures. I organized a gaggle of fellow geeks enrich the experience.

Left to right, we have J.B. Straubel (Tesla Motors), Carl Rosendahl (Dreamworks Animation), Kim Polese (SpikeSource), Mark Drummond (Jildy), Andy & Eva Grove (Intel), Marissa Mayer (Google), and Erik Charlton (Nest Labs).

When the airship is on mast, it is like a 747-sized weather vane. So we had to snap a quick shot as she was blowing around toward us.

  1. What a spectacular day! .

  2. An impressive gaggle!..or is that google?

  3. Whoa. Andy Grove? Awesome.

  4. It must have been wondeful!

You are destined to be airborn a lot.

  5. Wow, haven’t seen Carl in ages. Nice lineup there.

  6. Too much fun! Thanks again, Steve.

  7. Looks great!

Do you know if Carl Rosendahl is related to airship pioneer Charles Rosendahl? I was wondering if the subject came up during your flight.

  8. Yes, but I had no idea when I invited this Carl. Lucky Karma. The elder was commander of the USS Akron, was in the Shenandoah when it crashed, and flew in the Graf Zeppelin and the Hindenburg (luckily not on its final voyage, though he was there when it ignited).

  9. update: this trip doubled up as a real estate tour… as JB was scouting new sites for Tesla HQ. The bottom photo in the WIRED article came from this Zeppelin ride. JB was shooting a lot of photos…. =)

  10. and now Marissa is the CEO of Yahoo!
