  1. Hydrogen-powered rocket?

  2. No… they look like this:

Hydrogen Fuel Rocket What’s That? (74)

This was a baking soda and vinegar rocket. It pops so fast that it is really tough to catch on film. For this launch, for example, the rocket was in the top of the palm tree 0.3 seconds later:

    Trees are Rocket Magnets

Here’s a funny video of my first attempt to launch one of these…

  3. Had something like that as a kid, lost it on the second launch, it went into the ocean.

  4. In ‘ancient times’, we could get soda & vinagar toys in cereal boxes! I always liked the ones you could play with in the tub….subs, etc…LOL
    Dvie! Dive! Dive!
    Love the expression!

  5. The things we do for our art… 😉

  6. Maybe it’s the doctor in me, but please be careful! After watching the video I can only imagine what might have happened if the rocket had gone off 1 second earlier, facing any other direction but up. All the money in the world can’t fix some things. You’ve got to come up with a safer way to release the baking soda once that thing is on the ground and in place!

  7. Re: the video: Surely I’m not the only one struck by the irony of you almost getting your head taken off by a baking soda rocket. Imagine the eulogies from all your "big boy" rocket pals. 🙂

  8. yeah, they get no respect.

Dr Dad: Yes, there is a safety element in the video (and every launch of this rocket) whereby the plane in which I hold and rotate the rocket is orthogonal to me and the audience. So if it pops off a bit early it is not pointing toward any people, front or rear. The rear is more important as a metal bolt and rubber stopper shoots out the back.

  9. y’know what Steve, you have fun don’t you! ..hahaha..

keep up the good work. ;o)

  10. Oh yeah…. but, get this, some people think it’s embarrassing!

  11. oh, that’s a bit harsh. I mean it’s not like you’re trying to lounge seductively on a desk or anything. ..hahaha… (in fact, it’s odd how the first two pics are quite ‘feminine’ isn’t it… and slightly disturbing, :o)

probably voted for by another bunch of geeks working 9-5 monday to friday. they’re just jealous. ;o)
