I had indeed the freshwater duckweed in mind, but a blooming of ocean phytoplankton caused e.g. by targeted iron fertilization or unwanted eutrophication could also lead to the formation of anoxic or hypoxic ocean volumes acting as methane sources…
Interesting.. and in the Baltic no less. Very shallow there… I wonder how it compares to the open ocean. And where did all those methane hydride deposits come from anyway…
Yes, yes, we are doomed. The Baltic looks like nano wormsign to me.
I recommend the following defense strategy: mine and capture these gooey, teeming clathrate thingamajigs while there’s still time, zap them with microwaves to eliminate their protective water shell, and immolate them in purifying auto-da-fé bonfires (^^;
