Playful quips while facing Nathan Myhrvold at lunch, and joined by Paul Allen and Craig Mundie at dinner. It was like bringing the band back together.
We had a blast talking about rockets with Bezos and Allen… and making Jurassic Park manifest with Myhrvold.
Rather than try to repair archaeological dino DNA as in the movie, Nathan turns to the silenced and mutated genes within modern birds. It’s an extreme form of genetic archaeology. He hopes to reverse the evolutionary march, so that a modern bird could hatch its distant dino predecessor. Having surveyed numerous birds, including rare ones with wing-tip fingers, he concluded that the simple chicken would be the best starting point.
From a dino & egg perspective, the egg comes first.
Nathan is a master French Chef and expert on dinosaur sex. He has a full T-Rex in his home library as well as a huge collection of rocket motors. Bliss.
