Obama takes to the podium with a smile.

With the whirlwind of 1.8 million people stretching as far as the eye can see.

The Obama-rama

  1. What did you think of his speech? Do you have any thoughts on his science policy?

  2. He’s already reversing Bush policies on stem cell research and climate policy, and he just followed up on his Inaugural comments on cleantech by calling for independence from foreign oil (BBC).

I especially liked what he said during a breakfast I had with him:

“A whole generation got into math and science because of Apollo. The President has to talk about it in a way that has not been done recently. It’s a subtle thing. In the last several years, I have been shocked by the degree of anti-intellectualism that has been promulgated by the Bush Administration. He jokes about being a C student and says ‘I’m not big on science. I know what I think.’ Kids absorb that. I’d like to spend eight years extolling the importance of science and technology and problem solving and critical thinking.”

I also just noticed that California seems to be featured prominently in the posse closest to Obama during the inauguration…

  3. Amen! That was a Breakfast of Champions!

  4. can I use Obama’s inauguration photos for free in a book I’m creating.

  5. Sure. All of my photos are free to use forever with a simple photo credit:

If it’s online somewhere, please have the credit line link to the flickr page.
Also, for my personal collection, would it be possible to email me a scan of the page where it appears? SteveJ@Boxbe.com I like to see where things end up.

  6. For that book or otherwise, see it as David Bergman‘s 1400 megapixels of information (1.47 gigapixels 🙂 …
