The Inauguration was quite the love fest.

I read in USA Today that although a record 1.8 million people congregated for the Inauguration, there were no arrests of anybody as of Tuesday at 6 p.m. Well, later that evening, I witnessed what may have been the only arrest, and it was inside the Western Inaugural Ball, about an hour before the Obamas and Bidens danced.

A buzzing group of eight cops berated, ‘cuffed and extracted a young couple that looked terribly embarrassed and a bit tipsy. The offense: copulating in public. Oh yes, it was a veritable love fest!

I had to wait my turn, as I was the next occupant of their “bridal suite” – the one stall in the men’s room.

That young couple should be Obama’s first Presidential pardon!

  1. you can be arrested for that as well, you know… *

  2. What a great story. I’m a little amazed the day went off without a hitch, 1.8m people is hard to wrap your head around.

  3. I love the blue satin dress and the polka-dot bow-tie and cummerbund!

I am sure your first dance was memorable too in this nice evening full of enthusiasm!

  4. 8 cops to arrest 2 love birds? I hope they didn’t taser them, though there are probably some people who have a taser fetish…

  5. Congratulations on getting to attend a historic day in person.

    Proud to be American.

  6. Eight cops does seem like overkill, but like they say, "get a room!" LOL
By the way, you look very nice!

  7. Funny story but it is amazing that there was not only no violence or any threat to the Obamas, but no unpleasantness of any kind. It was a wonderful day and they were a magical couple.

  8. I interpreted the number of policemen at the same arrest as representative of the incident/crime free day and evening. That is what Steve was surely trying to show.

(My comment was written while the previous one was being written and posted.)

  9. I guess it makes sense to have that many cops for those two. If you were a cop, who would you rather arrest: the happy couple or the angry ex-Bush staffer?

BTW, the REAL crime they committed was hogging the ONLY stall in the bathroom.

I was glad everything went well. The only real flaw in the event was the oath administered by the Chief Justice. I know he’s relatively new, but how hard is this to do, correctly?

  10. 🙂 You look pretty happy…and ruffled…

  11. thanks…

289: thanks…. yeah, several thousand views out in the blogosphere (but not here, because they, once again, used my photo without attribution; fixed now). My favorite comment out there is from Dagrolord, 3:05 AM

Occasionally in life, you’re privileged to witness a combination of words that are so deliciously perfect and absolutely right together it’s as if watching the re-union of the twin halves of the Amulet of Life, separated from the days of the Pharaohs.

‘Inaugural Balling’ is just such a combination. Kudos Mr. Jurvetson.

  12. Oui !!! Superbe photo of the both of you =)

    (just discovered that :
Obama inaugurated in Lego form )

  13. Steve, it is one thing for comments in the Valleywag to always seem to be unkind or disrespectful to you but I would protest when any comment is directed to your lady. Don’t you agree?

  14. In theory yes, but I must have missed the comment directed to the resplendent lady bird…
