Looks very cool! Umm, maybe a bit cold too??
Got’a love the Rockets Mag sticker…how does security react?? Post more images as you get ’em…looking forward to some real-time reporting =)
I’m sure you get a lot of "ZOMG, this guy must be a pro, what a lens" ๐ Love the pics!
Is that a fully-extended Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens around your neck or are you just happy to be there? ๐
for those temps, you need layers, not just 2. Plus DC is the last place I’d want to be, too many people. Though you do seem to have prime placement….ditto jpancoast.
This is a really neat shot, especially considering how dense the crowds were. Looks like you had a box seat.
Enjoy this great part of history! I appreciate the photos! I can’t imagine how the DC Metro system is handling all the people!
Thanks for sharing….I went too, but I had terrible seats (terrible camera, and no skills). You must be press. Its great to see what was happening. all I could see were heads!
Now that the Inauguration has past, I am enjoying the photos you are taking with your heavy and extra long lens!
Dude, I’m sure your photos have been published in more places than most press shooters…myself included ๐
Steve! I know this was fun. Is that a monument sticking out of your head or did the wind blow your hair up like that?
Nice equipment. Excellent results from what I’ve seen so far. Wish I could have gone too, but knowing you were there I knew I’d see some good shots.
as was the crowd…. 1.8 million people and no arrests as of Tuesday (well, I may have seen the only one, Tuesday night, but that was for public copulation!) A real love fest!
The redemption cheer when the helicopter lifted the Bushes out of the Capitol was especially surreal.
Rocketeer: I was thinking Boba Fett’s helmet… or maybe a happy unicorn
If not press, how did you get the great close-up seats, or was that due to an extra, extra long lense?
@ser_en_dip_ity, this is the result of direct connections (see Obama set) and I presume, personal investment in the campaign.
!MimosaMicheMichelle!,
I know, after I commented I looked at his other photos, and felt STOOPID. Its nice to know that politics still works as it should – rewarding those who are well connected and give $ ;-). I DID think the neighborhood ball was a great idea, and tried to get tiks for that, but I don’t work in politics. Unfortunately folks were exploiting that situation by flipping them for big bucks. Shameful!
@ser_en_dip_ity, there is never any need to consider feeling stu… You alone decide how you feel. It is only that you had not discovered Steve’s photostream yet. Now, you can make fascinating discoveries. ๐
!MimosaMicheMichelle!,
I’m ok feeling st@@pid once in a while! I have to spend my working hours appearing smart. Humility is an undervalued quality. Think of all the wars that could have been prevented…
Yehhh nice finding Nemonels.
Where is Charlie…..sorry….Steve !!!

(I did look for you, with the help of the point of view, from your pictures, and the auto portrait with your clothes. But could not find you. Did you move from the moment he was taking the Oath, and his speech ?
Could be a cool puzzle…with all the pictures from the event on the web…who will be the first to find you =D
PhotonQ, Nels1: What a cool composite image. I stayed in the same place for the ceremony, with my back to a tree…. and unfortunately, from this perspective, I am obscured by the white television tower in the middle of the picture.
But it got me looking, and Flying Doc posted a cool photo of me lifting my son into the tree for a view over the tall people.
Steve, I was there too! I was standing in the ‘blue’ section (right behind the chairs). How could I have missed you with a lens like that?? What an amazing event, huh?! -Herb Stephens

Jurvetson, I love all the photo’s you take, I have followed your work. I was on the left across Pennsylvenia Ave. I was there at 3 am on 3rd st, and when they opened the gates, we couldn’t cross to the mall and after 5 hours of trying we gave up and watched it on a plasma TV inside the Newsium. lol. I took some cell phone photo’s (ugh) that I put up.But your right, it was the most peaceful group of 2 million people all congregated from every part of the world, and mostly minorities. So what does that tell you. It was a very proud moment, and I am very, very proud of our country. Keep up the excellent work.
