While mountain biking in the drizzle this morning, we came across a wonderful array of shroom fans, and when I looked more closely, I found a colorful denizen strutting about.

Anyone recognize this fella? Yellow-orange belly and reddish-brown bumpy back. And a nice blue eyes.

  5. Oh. It’s not under water. Why did I think that!?

  6. so so so damn cool

  7. Magical macro. Super shot.

  8. thanks y’all.

Now I read in Todd’s wikipedia link:
"the glands in the skin of T. torosa secrete the potent neurotoxin tetrodotoxin, which is hundreds of times more toxic than cyanide."

Explains why he didn’t seem to have any fear of me as a possible predator. Just strutting around like he owned the place….

  9. "the glands in the skin of T. torosa secrete the potent neurotoxin tetrodotoxin, which is hundreds of times more toxic than cyanide. This is the same toxin found in pufferfish"

Does it mean that T. torosa is safely edible by soy sauce-using predators if it has been skinned by a properly trained and licensed cook? Newt sashimi, anyone? (The Frenchies eat frogs and snails, after all)
