When asked if they would take our group picture, the Shenzhen Kempinski hotel staff made it a group experience… and so I took their picture taking our picture, and so on…
Once as a child I got to attend a business dinner my father had with Japanese pipe suppliers. They were a sweet group of guys, and that made me feel comfortable to ask them if they thought in English while they spoke English. They conferred with each other for five minutes in Japanese. Reaching a consensus, they all agreed that they thought in Japanese, translated it into English in their head, and then spoke the English out loud. I loved that evening. It was interesting. They loved the Peking duck… We ate at a Chinese restaurant that night.
One time when I was in Singapore a group of Japanese girls came up to me and I thought asked if I would take their picture. I agreed, but what they meant was they wanted their picture with me. They jumped in frame, flashed peace signs, and a friend of theirs snapped a picture of a confused Todd + girls. They ran off giggling.
