Seeing how far the rabbit wormhole goes…

Flight Four was the charm, and the various video feeds have been edited into a Space X Music Video

Accelerating from 0 to 17,000 mph in less than ten minutes, Falcon 1 is a two-stage rocket powered by liquid oxygen and purified kerosene. It is the first privately developed, liquid fueled rocket to reach orbit and the world’s first all new orbital rocket in over a decade.

  1. One cool detail: Late in the video, you will notice the upper stage nozzle gets red hot… it is as thin as a Coke can! It is a niobium-halfnium alloy that is very light and can take extreme heat (making it tricky to weld).

That's Hot – SpaceX Falcon in Space

  2. Here in France we would say it’ s red like a drunker ‘s nose O=)
Great videos. Thanks for the Links. I’ ll show the one with the music to kids at school during next month talk =)

So that’ s where your badges end-up, at the end of your visits ? Toilets ?

  3. incredible

    (the toilet)

  4. Very cool, but why did you throw your badge into the urinal?

    😉

  5. looks more like the funky table in the lobby

  6. exactly…. a wormhole to the stars.

the toilet toss is for the cell phone… =)

  7. While there’s probably a nuance that makes the above statement true, the EELVs (Delta IV and Atlas V) are really all new vehicles, with first flights in 2002. Still, it’s very exciting to see the SpaceX success, and the hope for low cost access to space. Falcon 9 will be especially interesting. (I’m a payload guy- no current connection to any of the LV developers)

Here’s a Delta II launch from last year:

COSMO-Skymed 3 is scheduled for launch next week (24 Oct, 7:28 PM PST), also on Delta II.

Here’s a Delta IV launch from 2006 (strictly amateur video, but some interesting aspects, including countdown)

  8. Fabulous video, thanks!
I’m going to read up on niobiun-halfnium!

    (thanks, pegleg000, too!).
