Reminds me of the old Hong Kong airport where you could look out the airplane window during landings and clearly see people in their apartment tower windows.

And here you could see the approach lights on various rooftops.

  1. That is a nice shot. You could have a career in photography … if that VC stuff doesn’t pan out for you!-) (Just kidding;)

I flew in to the old HK airport years ago- the second most "exciting" landing I’ve ever been in. You could almost reach out and grab the food off their tables. This video almost captures it:

I hear the new airport has taken the fun out of it.

  2. I went to US Navy boot camp in San Diego in 1970. The planes taking off to the west from the airport flew right over the Navy base. The standard procedure was to wait for the planes and noise to pass and then classes lectures could continue.

  3. heh… it’s like that for us now during meetings in La Jolla… we have to pause as the F-16s scream overhead.

San Diego is one of the busiest single runway airports in the U.S.

  4. That’s really neat, last time we went to San Diego I spent half the time rushing to try to capture a picture of the planes going by up ahead. Never got a good shot like that one though!

  5. There’s a nice Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park_ worth a visit if you have time. Among other interesting displays is one of the few remaining Seadarts. Also an A-12.

  6. neat, we’re headed to San Diego this February for Spacefest, I’ll try to drag everyone there too!
