Gary Hamel: In 1890, nine out of ten of people worked for themselves, and the other one wished they did. If we look at all of the change in society since then, much of it was enabled by the technology of management.

But in a recent global survey, no country had more than 20% of it’s workers saying that they were “engaged in their work.” Most were disengaged or did not care. Japan was the worst of the countries surveyed.

P.S. Activision (Guitar Hero) CEO jut got off stage… He kept slamming the caviar-eating execs at Vivendi who acquired his company… When asked about the China market, he ended the panel with “Hey, we’re French. We surrender easily”

Moments earlier during the refreshment break, there was a precious moment that I so wish I could have caught on film. A kid was jamming on guitar hero, and Neil Young was watching in amazed bemusement from behind….

Eric Schmidt just took the stage.

P.S.S. This was a hand-held shot from the blogger back row in low-light with a pocket camera at full zoom (200mm equivalent for a SLR). The G9 rocks IMHO

One response to “Dell Hamel Benioff”

  1. I wish you never would’ve mentioned that Neil Young tidbit. That would’ve been my Picture of the Decade. I suppose the kid wasn’t playing along to "Southern Man."
