There are many towers in San Gimignano, packed more closely together than one would expect for city defenses.

Fractious families turned inward and built towers to attack their neighbors.

Hey, look at that masonry… The Capulets appear to be building a tower right in our view corridor. Go get the archers.

  1. It sounds like the story of the bank towers in Hong Kong using Feng Shui to determine their aggressive and defencive stance.

    Enemies are smartest when they join together to form a greater force. This town’s families did not have the best attitude.

    I makes for a fascinating sketching subject. The towers and buildings have a nice patina.

  3. Yes, I see that in the largest version (small too now that I know) and I think they are ghosts protecting the locals who are still haunted by their families’ past! They want to be sure new families are always living in peace and harmony..and health.
