   These towers are vestige of a day when being able to see trouble coming on the horizon (Huns, Germani, armies from Florence, Venice, Milano, Naples, France, Rome, Spain) was key to survival…In some towns rival families got a bit carried away and built a bunch of these towers — probably so they could keep watch on the horizon for armies coming in secret alliance with the other family(ies) that had towers…
