something geeky this way comes
Interesting — you get so many daily views that the statistical fluctuations are small. Why the uptick in the last couple days?
that’s what puzzles me. Maker Faire postings attracting curious people?
I don’t see major blog activity on Technorati
I suspect this is an artifact of a bug, or some unexpected process (rogue crawler? api app?). Why? Because my stats showed the same doubling! Believe me, there can be no valid reason for *mine* to double :-).
Obviously you got somethign on Explore, the top 500 of the day.
(uses Scout on jurvetson) You mean, you got high explore on Gentle Giant "May 6, 2008 #18"

wow still heavy daily traffic!
congratz
i would’ve had something like this,
but got shit on by the the false prude squad
around 5% of it now.. ;(
With such a big daily traffic, hope you won’t mind if i do a little "word of mouth" about PANGEA DAY (since i heard of it from TED, and discovered TED from you ) O=)
On May 10, 2008 (this Saturday) the World will link together to share a 4hours program of films.
Pangea Day is a global event bringing the world together through movies/doc.
It will be broadcast live, at different location, all over the planet ( see the map to find the nearest location from your place. )
Here are some videos presenting what Pangea Day is about :
PangeaDay the Global Storytellers (video)
Pangea Day — May 10th. Join Us!
(I left more infos links etc here ) :
See you there and come back with cool photos of the sharing and experience, of course ; )
I guess we are all Geeky. I check my stats and
see my pictures have been viewed ten or twenty times..
Woo Hoo.
@aefitzhugh: yup, that’s what I suspect. Or perhaps some blog points to my main page or profile page but did not picked up by Technorati.
@Tomi: I thought a "hot page" could explain it at first too… but then it would show up on the daily tally. "Gentle Giant" got 115 views in the same 24 hrs that the total views spiked 4.5K above normal. The distribution of views across the top 10 pages looks likes a regular day for my photostream (comparing it to today and the prior week). To absorb an additional 4,500 views and not appear in the top 10, means that they were spread over at least 94 separate pages. Could be curious browsers, profile or home page views, or a new spider that parsed some of us, or a stats bug.
@Gustavo: Today, Stats says 47% of the referrals came from flickr (#2 drops to 7%). But Explore only directs to a hot page, right? The curve has stayed high for two days beyond what you see here… Perhaps this "Gentle Giant" led to more curious browsing than other inbound pointers?
Oh, here’s a third party tool that shows a May 7 spike in home page views:
So maybe 2K extra views came there… but Stats shows the traffic spiking on May 6 and staying high…
Well, I who normally visits each day, I have been so busy taking photos of Spring (hundreds, most not public yet) that I have not come by since over two weeks. It is certainly not my lack of visits here that got your stats to change! 😉 Said with humour.
By the way, in less than 300 views, I will attain the 100,000 mark.
