They use Diet Coke because it is not sticky when you bathe in it. Who knew?

But it is hard to remove. I had to lick my lens clean.

The Mentos mints have a rough surface that provides many nucleation sites for rapid gas release (the science).

We drank the remains of one of these and it tasted, not surprisingly, like flat Coke (reminding us that the bubbles and acid were originally added to make a fluid that hyper-sweet drinkable).

I remember well that these guys were the first video hit on Revver.

  1. Too much! and thanks for the links!

You got some nice reflections there, too!

  2. It was fun when the Mythbusters tested that Diet Coke and Mentos "craze".

Coke ain’t hyper-sweet. It is around 10-13 percent sugar.

  3. …not supersaturated, like honey… but hyper-sweet to my palate…

But is it a perceptual bias? I read now that grape juice has 50% more sugar than Coke

  4. Isn’t the difference in the sweetness (and unhealthiness) due to the corn syrup in Coke that doesn’t exist in juice?

  5. Great photo!
    love the fan-shaped spray 🙂

I can’t drink undiluted grape juice either… too sweet! honey is ok though…

  6. Just realized that I am visible (yellow Telstar Logistics shirt, far left) in the MakerFaire shot looking back from the stage:

  7. and a video of the 2009 show…
