warped by an inflated parabolic solar concentrator…

  1. Here’s a pair of inflated concentrator balloons, repurposed from a party supply store, and a tensegrity truss rigging structure to minimize materials cost. The balloons need to be replaced about once/year. (I’d call their array of cheap concentrators a “RAISC”)

Gosh, I think they should make their first sales call to Hooters.

  2. I saw this event from my office window.. had I know more about it I would have strolled down and said hello… Hope it all went well, I like the effort!

  3. Oh, other half transparent. Hmm.

  4. gorgeous – particularly the tapered upper left… and such a great idea.

    RAISC = ?

tensegrity 🙂 – good old Bucky… great design science bulletins to be found here at the dedicated BFI site.

  5. "warped by an inflated parabolic solar concentrator blablablacantunderstandasingleword" = you mean transwarping
    …of course !!?!! =P

  6. hmm, they just fold space. Gets me every time.

@biotron: like RAID, Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Solar Collectors. I think the neighborhood kids would be tempted to pop them. 😉

Oh, I just remembered something interesting…. I took a bunch of shots toward the center of the mirror, but my hand and camera are not visible in any of the shots. I wonder if this is like a mirror lens…

    Magic Mirror Eye Mondo-Zoom Lens

..where the focus is at a great distance, and objects right in front of the lens don’t show up at all.

  7. "objects right in front of the lens don’t show up at all."

I was having dinner, playing with the glass of water and things on the table with reflection (fork, bottle of wine …What ? I am french !! ..etc ) looking for all the light sources reflected. But couldn’t find some at first because of the warping…or wine..not sure…
The point was =) Reminded me this picture i saw earlier..and connected (at the desert O=) with Ghost in The Shell :

A crazy Answer could come from a " Stand Alone " question :

Is there something strange about the first picture..of a man shaving in front of a mirror… If so…what is it…?

Then you notice that, there is not camera…reflection of the person..but no camera. How come ? (yeh yeh, it s a manga so they drew whatever they wanted = )

Their answer is…there are nanomachines, "Intercepters"implanted in the person’s brain. Hacking his "visual information" and sending or recording it, like a camera would.

So…are you some kind of NanoCyborg already Steve ? Or could your camera have been hacked by nanobots =P

    Bon week end.

  8. interesting RAISC idea.
could be useful for deploying a helium-filled wireless antenna too!

  9. Beautiful image! Wish I saw it in person. Thank you for shaing.
