When the LEGO Mindstorms Robot suddenly goes insane, you know the great robot uprising has begun.

A young boy was reprogramming his Scorpion Bot to “sting when anything approaches close enough to the ultrasonic sensor, and it says good morning when the light comes on and puts on a happy face, and when you turn the light off, it puts zzz’s all over the screen and says good night and snores.”

Lo and behold, there is an insane object in the machine, something deep in the LEGO code base that he uncovered.

  1. I’m not sure what this insane object is about but I will say on the part of the robot and myself (a Scorpio)

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

    Bonne nuit!

  2. LOL. Insane! This reminds me of when I was a kid, sitting with my Mom while she was running something on an old CP/M machine we had and she got an error she had never seen before saying "End Of File Found Unexpectedly!" She thought that was hilarious.

  3. fascinating, she’s insane, but what happens to me by the time I learn all of this mindstorms.lego.com/

  4. LOL… Maybe the "sting" conflicts with the friendly "good morning".
    ‘-}

  5. at least the messages are more "friendly" 😛
    any idea what "insane" means in this context? null reference perhaps?

  6. Wow. I didn’t expect to see a GUI this nice, especially not on the Mac. Hooray to LEGO for this. Too bad the Mindstorms stuff is so expensive!
