  1. …as long as you can fix the things you wreck in the process…

  2. Life is not meant to be easy and challenges are part of what motivates people to keep going. I would hate for all my attempts at trying to be creative or innovative to be immediately successful. That means anyone can do the same thing. In some situations, it means it is not creative and innovative enough. I always liked this quote.

  3. …and the challenges make us feel so much better, in the end!

  4. I read something of his, that I think relates to the quote on the wall:
"In another decade, decade and half or something, we will hit something that is fundamental," Moore said when asked if there would be an end to his ‘law’. Sept 2007

There are fundamentals, and in fifteen years writing with atoms reaches its limit? Isn’t 15 years a long time, by then he may be able to see in singularity what he don’t see now and it may keep going. Or is it enough by then, we have plenty of speed and space.

I am sure new dimensions and opportunities rise. But if not for a while, then progress and his quote in granit is framed as a lack of work untill a new revorutionary idea comes about.

    What do you think?

  5. But Moore has been predicting new problems with the future of his Law for decades…. (perhaps worrying about the application of his quote to his Law 😉

Moore’s Law is a derivative of a longer, 100-year, trend in the exponential growth of computational power. The underlying trend is not particular to the silicon ICs of Moore’s prediction, and it has hopped physical substrates five times already. The next one will be a form of molecular electronics. (More on molecular Moore)

As for new dimensions, quantum computers are already engaging the resources of multiple parallel universes to do their work. It is a frame-breaking approach to computation. (more info & photo)

And for the Singularity, there is a discussion on this photo

  6. "If everyone is thinking alike then somebody isn’t thinking. " – George Patton.

    Same idea in the core.

I read it awhile ago, how curious.

  7. Do you really think its still going to take 25 yrs?

I guess maybe for things to be productized and ready for daily consumption…

Love this stuff, right where things are both incredibly exciting and terrifying simultaneously.

  8. the key word is "try"!
otherwise, certain software companies are definitely doing very well 😛

  9. Speaking of the singularity, muti-dimensionality, and trying very hard, there is no doubt that A. Garrett Lisi’s new work tying the E8 symmetry to a full "periodic table" of subatomic quanta is an important part of it…Lee Smolin and other physicists not wed to string theory seem very excited…and the paper is a tour de force synthesis that is anything but trivial…If ya’ll missed this, see here:
