  1. Oh, this is getting a little scary. Serious rocketry for sure.

  2. Just how HIGH do these things go???

  3. The big heavy ones might get up to the cruising altitudes of most jets. I’ve seen one go this high:

    Space, the Final Frontier

  4. Steve,

I’m attending my first Tripoli launch this weekend. Tripoli Mid-Ohio is launching about an hour from my house. Their field has a standing FAA waiver to 9,000 feet and can call in up to 14,000. That’s quite a bit higher than my regular NAR club’s 4500 foot waiver.

I hope to post some photos from the launch late on Sunday.

  5. Great men have great toys 🙂 And great men also care a lot. You must care a lot about the earth to take a look from sutch a hight. Not too many people care about anything accept for their own well being and promotion. Some wish to do good, and it turns to some political agenda instead , here is something, that a kid did in school because she cared, out of love, not for self: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDnBWRqq5uU

  6. Is that 31810 meters or feet? From the appearance, it looks like it could be meters, which would be almost 20 miles.

  7. kabaird – Steve can elaborate on the specifics, but that is indeed 31810 meters.

  8. I have to say this: if one of those things goes "lawn dart"…can you run fast enough to get clear? I almost killed a neighbor with an imbalanced 2′ tall rocket in high school (bad idea to use a spent co2 canister as a nose cone)…but these things are starting to get Nike-missile sized…very impressive…and scary…
