Ah, only by seeing the photo, not the comments, I knew it was where it is, only because there is no other place like it at least in North America. This photo is a good reminder too slow poke.
It is interesting and beautiful to see. The geography of our planet is always so fascinating! I think that seeing land at low tide, especially unusually low tide, gives us wonderful views of hidden treasures of our Earth.
The lake covers 1,700 square miles but has a maximum depth of about 35 feet. It’s typically 3 to 5 times saltier than the ocean and fish free. The phytoplankton blooms in January followed by several species of diatoms.
Oh the smell of brine shrimp wafting over the Great Salt Lake on a crisp fall morning. I grew up in SLC and when I was a kid, there was a small theme park at the lake called Saltair. Bumper cars, arcade, candy… you could float in the lake and see how the salt kept you buoyant. It smelled dreadful because of the brine shrimp though. Dreadful.
