I like the warmth of the picture.

  3. Still an amazing sight (so much more so in person, I’m sure). But is it really worth the money?

  4. Steve, your shots are so much better than the official NASA ones I’ve seen. Great work!

  8. Only 400mm?? gee, you must have been really close !! (too bad about the jpg compression artifacts in the large size)
A fave for just getting a shot like this !!!

  9. This is fantastic!!!

  10. Spectacular photo!! It shoud be an amazing show!

  11. This is unbelievable!!!! And you´ve really been there, I saw it on TV and in the papers, as the rest of the world!!!! How exciting!!!!
The angle is spectacular, with the white smoke on a side and the colours of the fire, the rocket and the sky are awasome!

  12. Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Delight for the eyes and mind, and we’d love to have your photo added to the group.

  13. Sweet. XPRS on acid. Good powerful shot.

  14. heh… Victor… great description. (XPRS for the curious)

thanks y’all. I was shooting freehand, and I think that helped! The videocam I had on a tripod shook like crazy…. It’s the best part of the video, actually, as it conveys the AP subwoofer effects better than the soundtrack.

C+: Yes, we were about as close as you can be. We were 5 stories above the press pit on the roof balcony of OSB II (Orbiter Support Bldg 2) which is next to ground control.

  15. So you were a human "image stabilizer" for your camera. 😉

Would this not be a XXXPRS?

    Or XPRS ~

(actually, I wanted to write to the power of ten or more but I do not know how to do this on the keyboard.)

All of this is quite an exceptional experience to share with us. Merci! I enjoyed seeing the great images!

  30. Wonderful shot!

    Absolutely A Super A+++ Photo!

  31. I finally uploaded the launch video. The videocam was sitting on a solid balcony of a five-story building. It takes a few seconds for the sound of the launch to reach us, but then the camera vibration catches the feeling better than any soundtrack can. Your whole body shakes from the rumble.

  32. Hi Steve, nice photograph. Can you tell me why the Shuttle makes a 180 degree roll just after takeoff?

    John…

  33. Hi Steve, thank you for the link about the Shuttle.

    John…

  34. I saw this in the 50+ Faves group and Faved it.
