I hitched a ride back from San Diego this afternoon, and practiced flying.

In this French Socata TBM700, the internal cabin pressure comes from the jet turbine that drives the propeller.

  1. Do you have a license or is it a dream or a plan?

  2. As with scuba diving, I’m seeing what I can do without a license (but with adult supervision)… So far, it’s been a wreck dive and a stunt plane to Lake Tahoe…. =)

  3. That’s a nice looking cockpit. The small planes I’ve flown (with instructors or a licensed pilot in command) have all looked a lot dodgier than that – Piper Warriors and a couple Mooneys.

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

  4. that’s entirely practical but there is the green issue

  5. About scuba diving steve, if i may.
You should do your first degree. It s very simple to do, very fast and you ll be happy to dive after whenever you want : )

(ho! and nice to see you are practicing your french Tagging ; )

  6. fun!!! my flying has been that way too…looped the loop in an ancient biplane…

  7. @atanas, it is all about having a high level of curiosity coupled with a high level of energy. That is all part of Steve’s personality. :-))

  8. Here’s another way to see San Diego from above without breathing your own exhaust…

  9. what is it that you can’t do steve? photography, venture capital, engineering, management…………………..all with impeccable precision

wish you the best of everything in all your ventures….hope to meet you some day

  10. Actually, the cabin is pressurized with air which has been compressed by the compressor turbines and vanes, but not mixed with fuel and ignited yet…so it’s not "exhaust". =)

  11. Next time could you walk out on the wing and give a live shot of that large propeller spinning? This is an interesting looking plane but I think we are more used to see this size of turboprop with twin engines.

  12. That’s awesome!! I have a few like this, but dunno if I have them up here…it’s been so long… sniff…
