The 400mm lens allows for some post-mortem analysis of the hijinx in the sky.

This was the largest total impulse of the day – a M motor booster with an air-start of an L motor for the upper stage. Shawn’s 16 ft. tall rocket made up for a lack of elegance with sheer horsepower.

But the stage separation took place way too early, with both stages under trust. At full size, you can see the booster ripping off one of the orange fins of the upper stage. I have never seen that before.

The computers deployed the parachutes for both stages correctly, and all was recovered.

  1. Very nice – looks like fun!

The next step I suppose is to attach a camera!

  2. Great Capture, I have to agree with Neil next is to put on a camera

  3. funny you should mention that…. 😉

  4. Interesting shot. Good work.

  5. Wow, looks like simply early ignition. Most stagers use accelerometers. Perhaps there was a "pulse" with the M-motor causing the accelerometer to confuse with Burnout by a sudden drop with output voltage. Loose wire could do the same.

  6. Wow, great timing. Awesome shot.
